Summary

The U.S. China Center for Education and Culture was established in November 2012. It is an international initiative of Vanderbilt University in collaboration with South China Normal University (SCNU) and Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU), located in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. The Center’s goal is to connect American education and culture to China’s Pearl River Delta, the most economically dynamic region in the country.  The key audiences are students and faculty at the two partnering universities; local K-12 public and private school teachers and administrators in need of professional development; and government and non-profit entities engaged in the preservation and presentation of cultural assets. 

 

中美教育与文化中心成立于2012年11月。它是由美国范德比尔特大学与来自中国广州的两所大学--华南师范大学合作(SCNU)与中山大学(SYSU)联合合作构成的国际交流活动中心。该中心的目标是连接美国与中国最具经济活力的地区--珠江三角洲的教育和文化,在中国,涉及到的主要群体包括合作高校的学生和教师,在当地公私立中小学院校中需要专业发展培训的教师和行政人员,以及从事文化资产保存与展览的政府和非营利的相关部门。

王红,教授,博士研究生导师,现任华南师范大学基础教育培训与研究院院长。兼任教育部委托《中小学德育》总编和教育部“国培计划”—海外培训项目执行办公室副主任。
2001年北京师范大学教育系教育经济与管理专业毕业,获管理学博士学位。


2004.8-2006.3 获国家留学基金为资助作为公派访问学者在美国范德堡大学 (Vanderbilt University)留学。


主要研究领域包括:教育经济与财政、校长领导力与学校发展、教师教育、基础教育、比较教育。主要学术成果:参著《2001年中国教育发展报告》、《简明教育经济学教程》等,发表学术论文50余篇,其中30权威或核心期刊上。先后承担教育财政与教育公平、名校长评价指标体系研究、校长领导力与学校效能等近20项课题。

Xiu Cravens serves as the China Liaison for Vanderbilt University. Cravens grew up in Nanjing, China and earned her B.A. in Chinese literature and linguistics from Peking University, her M.S. in communications from the University of Tennessee, and her Ph.D. in education policy from Vanderbilt University.

As the university China liaison since 2008, Cravens has lead the institutional efforts in working with Chinese universities such as Fudan, Beijing Normal, South China Normal, and Hong Kong Institute of Education in research, faculty and student exchange, and professional development for school administrators. She was one of the design team members for Peabody College’s Educational Leadership Learning Exchange (ELLE) program with South China Normal University.

Xiu Cravens teaches courses in international education policy analysis and research methods as a faculty at the Department of Leadership, Policy, and Organizations. She holds an administrative appointment as Peabody College's associate dean for international affairs, directs Vanderbilt’s U.S.-China Center for Education and Culture, and serves as the China Liaison for the Vanderbilt International Office.
